In light of the recent news about the thousands of new teachers receiving pink slips, everyone who knows that I am a second year teacher has asked me about my job security. I am fortunate to say that I don't work for LAUSD, but am at a charter school that is continuing to grow. My fortune, however, doesn't make me any less worried for the state of education in California. These layoffs will mean larger class sizes, loss of many motivated and truly caring teachers, greater difficulties in meeting student needs... what will all this mean for this generation of children and what effects will it have on our future?
I think about the students I worked with as a student teacher. I wish...
