After a reading in our anthology, we had a debate about what family was. Students argued whether or not they needed family to survive and whether or not our families could be replaced. Some had more to say than others but during recess, one of my little girls came up to me.
"Ms. Wong, during class when we were talking about families, I wanted to tell everyone in our class that they were family to me."
More and more so in the last few days, I couldn't imagine letting my little ones go in a few months. Maybe the work of designing 5th grade curriculum next year would be worth it. After all, we are family and family sticks together.
